Lived experience

Many of us have been there. We really get it.

A lot of our clinicians, dietitians and coaches are recovered from an eating disorder themselves. That lived experience, together with years of clinical training, means you’ll be understood, not judged, and you’ll be working with people who know full recovery is possible.

Is IOP right for me?

More support than weekly therapy. Without putting life on hold.

IOP is for teens and adults who need more structure than one session a week, or who are stepping down from residential or PHP. Our virtual PHP launches in 2027.

Program questions
How do I know if I need IOP?

Start with a free 15-minute pre-screening call. We’ll look at what’s going on medically, emotionally and day to day, and recommend the right level of care honestly, even if that’s somewhere else.

Can I keep my current therapist or dietitian?

Yes. You can keep your outpatient providers and we’ll coordinate with them. If you don’t have them, your IOP team can continue with you after you graduate.

Is it covered by insurance?

California Virtual Eating Disorder Experts is in-network with Kaiser, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and more. We’ll verify your benefits for free before you start.

Can I go to school or work?

Yes. Groups run morning and evening, and your case manager plans your schedule around school or work.

I’m on a GLP-1. Can I still join?

Yes. We welcome clients on GLP-1 medications and coordinate with your prescriber.

What happens after IOP?

You can step down to outpatient care with Joyful Therapy Group, often with the same therapist and dietitian, and join our alumni group.

Alongside · at the table right nowShe pushed her plate away and said she’s not hungry. What do I say?Stay calm and close. Try: “I know this is really hard. I’m right here, and we’re going to finish this together.” Keep your voice low and steady, and don’t debate the food. She said I’m ruining her life. That’s the eating disorder talking, not your daughter. You can say: “I love you too much to let this decide for you.” Then gently return to the meal.
